Join the Nordic Patrol

Join the Loess Hills Nordic Ski Patrol!

The Loess Hill Nordic is always looking for volunteers that enjoy the outdoors, are seeking opportunities learn new skills, want to be challenged and too serve the community in which they live.

Don’t have these certifications or skills? No problem! One of the benefits to joining the patrol (other than the people) is that the training is provided to become a Patroller. Once the basic requirements are completed there are additional training opportunities for patrollers both in and out of state. All you really need to do is to have the motivation to learn new stuff, be challenged and expand your backcountry skills.

Levels of Membership

Candidate Patroller - When you join the patrol you will be a Candidate Patroller. As a candidate you will need to complete Outdoor Emergency Care, (OEC) as well as a Basic Life Support Certification, (CPR health care provider level). These two are the base National Ski Patrol Requirements for membership. There is also some local training that is required by the Nordic Patrol policies and procedures for Hitchcock Nature Center and Mountain Travel and Rescue Level 1 (MTR-1). As a member of the Nordic Patrol there is an expectation that you will meet all the basic education, skills, and participation requirements within the first two years of membership.

Basic Medical Patroller - Once you have completed all the candidate requirements you are designated a Basic Medical Patroller and can fully participate in all training and treat patients! After becoming a Medical Patroller, there will be opportunities, if you decide you want to, for higher level training and responsibility.

Nordic Patroller - All patrollers are encouraged to take the training necessary to become a fully certified Nordic Patroller. The certification meets all National Ski Patrol requirements and as a Nordic Patroller you will have even more training opportunities in both front and backcountry.

So, are you interested?
